Today, the Office of Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL-20) confirmed the news of his passing on April 6, 2021. The dean of the Florida delegation, Congressman Hastings had served in Congress since 1993.

On the passing of Congressman Hastings, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) issued the following statement:

“I was so sorry to learn of the passing of my colleague, Congressman Alcee Hastings. Congressman Hastings was an institution – relentless in his mission to fight for his constituents and the rights of all Americans.

“Though we only served together for three months, it was clear from my first day in Congress just how much our colleagues revered him, both for his kindness and his deeply held values. He was a giant, a pioneer, and a stalwart champion for civil rights.

“My heart goes out to his loved ones and all those mourning his loss. May his memory be a blessing.”
