Today, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (CA-53) announced that Shaunte Brown, a College Area resident and child care provider, will join her virtually as a guest for President Biden’s address to a Joint Session of Congress on Wednesday, April 28. Brown has owned a family child care center in California’s 53rd Congressional District for 24 years.

President Biden’s first address to a Joint Session of Congress comes on the eve of his first 100 days in office. Members of Congress have invited constituents to join them as guests to joint sessions in past years; however, due to COVID-19 safety protocols, this year’s in-person attendance will be limited. As a result, Congresswoman Jacobs has invited Brown to be her virtual guest, to honor and celebrate the hard work of child care workers across California’s 53rd District and the entire country.

“I’m honored that Shaunte Brown is joining as my virtual guest to President Biden’s first address to Congress,” Jacobs said. “I’ve made child care and ending childhood poverty a top priority in Congress, and I was proud to fight for the $40 billion investment in child care and the expanded Child Tax Credit that were included in the American Rescue Plan. I’m so grateful President Biden shares those commitments and knows we have to do more to support our care infrastructure and care workers, like Shaunte. President Biden’s first 100 days have been historic, and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him to build back better.”

“I’m excited to be Congresswoman Jacobs’ guest to President Biden’s address to Congress tomorrow. This has been a really hard year, especially for child care providers, kids, and the parents we support. I'm so grateful that Congresswoman Jacobs and President Biden fought to pass the American Rescue Plan that will help my business and businesses like mine afford more PPE, set up more sanitation stations, and help us maintain a safe, healthy environment for our employees and the kids we care for,” said Shaunte Brown, who plans to watch the President’s speech with Congresswoman Jacobs at the Congresswoman’s virtual watch party.

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs will host a virtual watch party for residents of California’s 53rd Congressional District on Wednesday evening at 5:30 PM PT. Constituents can register for the virtual watch party here.
