Rep. Sara Jacobs Calls for Comprehensive Immigration Reform – Not Campaign Stunts

Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) voted against a Republican-led bill that would reinstate Title 42 and the Remain in Mexico policy, end the asylum system, jail children and families indefinitely, worsen the situation at the border, criminalize visa overstays, and other inhumane policies.

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “San Diegans aren’t interested in campaign stunts masquerading as border policies; we want effective solutions that support border communities and address our broken immigration system. I regularly visit San Diego’s border and receive updates from CBP and Border Patrol. They agree that restricting asylum won’t make us any safer or make their jobs any easier. Instead, we need a comprehensive approach to immigration reform that addresses the root causes of migration, relieves the strain on our asylum processing system, and expands the legal pathways for people to come, stay, and work in the United States. It’s been 40 years since Congress passed comprehensive immigration reform, and this proposal would only make our policies more archaic and exacerbate the challenges facing our border communities.”
