Rep. Sara Jacobs Criticizes Daily 4-Hour Humanitarian Pauses as “Wholly Inadequate”
Following the announcement of the Netanyahu Government beginning 4-hour daily pauses of fighting in areas of northern Gaza, Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51), the youngest Jewish Member of Congress, criticized the policy as “wholly inadequate” to deliver meaningful humanitarian aid to Palestinians in need.
Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “Two weeks ago, I called for a temporary cessation of hostilities amid the deteriorating humanitarian crisis and the lack of humanitarian access in Gaza. But the Netanyahu Government’s announced four-hour pauses are wholly inadequate. Many Palestinians cannot physically leave northern Gaza, are afraid to leave without the promise of return, or have previously fled to the south and then returned because of a lack of services.
“Four-hour pauses aren’t nearly long enough to deliver much-needed food, water, fuel, and medical supplies to those in need. Moreover, any cessation of hostilities cannot be followed by resuming the same military campaign that has killed thousands of Palestinian civilians, including thousands of children. I urge the Netanyahu Government to agree to a longer and more robust cessation of hostilities and to change the course of this military campaign to hold Hamas accountable while protecting Palestinian civilians caught in harm’s way.”
