Rep. Sara Jacobs Votes to Lift 400,000 Kids out of Poverty

Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) voted to pass legislation that would help families make ends meet, boost housing that’s affordable, spur innovation, improve economic competitiveness, and more.

Rep. Sara Jacobs said, “Improving the lives of 16 million kids, including 148,000 kids in the San Diego area alone, is no small feat – especially considering today’s fraught political climate. While I wish this deal could have been bigger and bolder, I’m glad that it will lift 400,000 children out of poverty this year through an expanded Child Tax Credit and help millions more low-income families.

“San Diego, like much of California and the country, is facing a housing affordability crisis. The average monthly rent in San Diego is $3,175, making our city the 3rd most expensive place to rent in the country. This legislation will enhance the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), helping to build more than 200,000 housing units that are affordable. We still have more work to do to increase the affordability and accessibility of homes and child care for the lowest-income and most marginalized households, but this legislation is a good start.”
