Reps. Sara Jacobs, Anna Paulina Luna Introduce Bipartisan Resolution to Allow Members to Vote by Proxy for 6 Weeks After Giving Birth

Reps. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) and Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) introduced a bipartisan resolution to amend the House Rules and allow Members of Congress to vote by proxy for six weeks after they’ve given birth.

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “We need to do more to modernize Congress and make it more inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to parents, so we can ultimately pass policies that help families make ends meet and thrive. I froze my eggs in my first year in Congress, and have delayed starting a family myself in part because my job requires constant travel between California and D.C., which is difficult when you’ve just given birth. That’s why I’m so glad we’ve found bipartisan consensus on allowing Members of Congress parental leave after giving birth so they don’t have to choose between their family and their jobs. This is an important step forward in making our government more representative of our country.”
