Statement from Congresswoman Jacobs on Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

House passes Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and key procedural vote on Build Back Better Act

Washington, D.C. - On Friday, the House passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (H.R. 3684). Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) voted for the bill, which now goes to the White House for President Biden’s signature. The vote followed an agreement Friday to also advance the next procedural vote on the Build Back Better Act, H. Res.774, the “rule vote” that is required before legislation can be brought to the floor.

Congresswoman Jacobs has supported passing the two bills together, to fully implement President Biden’s agenda and to ensure that we have a broad-based recovery. She was part of the team that negotiated the final agreement on the vote series Friday night.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes $550 billion in new federal infrastructure spending, including the largest investment in public transit ever, the largest investment in clean water ever, and the largest investment in passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak. The bill includes significant funding to repair roads and bridges, expand broadband internet access and upgrade ports, airports, and ferry services.

Overall, the legislation will create over 2 million jobs per year across the decade.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act addresses climate change by reducing emissions across the transportation sector, modernizing the energy grid, building up America’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, transitioning to zero emissions buses, and strengthening climate resilience measures.

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) releases the following statement:

“I’ve said from the beginning of my term that we need a recovery that serves all Americans: we need to rebuild and upgrade our infrastructure, and we need to invest in families and kids.

“I was proud to work with my colleagues in the Progressive Caucus and Democratic House leadership tonight to make sure our plans for the entire Build Back Better agenda move forward. After a long day, I’m grateful that we advanced the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to the President’s desk with a bipartisan vote and made significant progress toward passing the Build Back Better Act.

“I was elected in the middle of this pandemic, and my constituents sent me here to make progress for San Diego and to build a recovery for all of us. Now that the infrastructure bill has passed the House, our top priority and focus is getting the Build Back Better Act across the finish line. The investments in these bills will be life-changing for hundreds of thousands of families and workers in my district, and I’m honored to be doing this work on their behalf.”
