Statement from Congresswoman Sara Jacobs on Burma

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53), member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Armed Services Committee, releases the following statement:

“I am alarmed by the reports out of Burma that the Tatmadaw has arrested civilian government leaders, including President U Win Myint and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi. This is a significant setback for the people of Burma and their hopes of achieving a stable democracy.

“I am eager to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate, and with the Biden Administration, to ensure that the United States holds responsible Min Aung Hlaing and the Tatmadaw, encourages a return to the Constitutional order, and lifts up the people of Burma.”
