Congresswoman Jacobs Announces $24 Million in New Federal Funding for San Diego International Airport Thanks to Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

San Diego, CA - Today, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) announces that San Diego International Airport will receive $24,160,074 in new federal funding for fiscal year 2022 thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the bipartisan infrastructure bill signed by President Biden in November.

The funding comes from the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Infrastructure Grant program, one of three new aviation programs created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. For a full list of airport funding, click here

San Diego International and other local airports are set to receive similar levels of funding each year for the next five years. In addition to the $24 million allocated to San Diego International, other local airports will also receive funding, including $763,000 for Gillespie Field, $295,000 for Montgomery-Gibbs, and $295,000 for Brown Field Municipal Airport. Airports can submit proposals to the FAA for how they plan to use the funding in the coming weeks.

“The bipartisan infrastructure bill is delivering for San Diego. I am proud to announce that San Diego International Airport will receive more than $24 million dollars in federal funding - and that’s just the beginning. San Diego International is the third busiest airport in California and a huge economic asset for our region. The increased travel around the holidays shows how important it is to upgrade our transportation infrastructure. This federal funding will help make the travel experience better for local residents and make our city a more attractive destination for visitors from around the world. I am excited that $24 million dollars in funding is on the way for San Diego International, along with funding for the other airports in San Diego County. My office will continue to push every lever to make sure San Diego gets the funding we need,” said Congresswoman Jacobs.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, included $15 billion in formula funding to help redevelop airports across the country.  Projects that qualify for funding include: improvements to runways and taxiways, terminal development and noise prevention.  The law also includes an additional $5 billion nationally for FAA towers and facilities funding, which the FAA will distribute among airports in need. The bipartisan infrastructure bill also includes an additional $5 billion in funding for the Airport Terminal Program, a competitive grant program for terminal upgrades.
