Congresswoman Jacobs Applauds Adoption of Commission Proposal by Speaker Pelosi

Jacobs called for commission in 1/20 letter to Pelosi

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) applauds Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement of an independent, 9/11-style commission on the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Congresswoman Jacobs first proposed a similar measure, a truth commission, following the attack in a letter to Speaker Pelosi on January 20. Congresswoman Jacobs also discussed her call for a truth commission in an interview with CNN on Sunday.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Jacobs served at the United Nations and the State Department where she worked on post-coup transitions and responses to electoral violence and violent extremism in Fiji, Mali, Nigeria, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Congresswoman Jacobs releases the following statement:

“With so much disinformation surrounding the attack on the Capitol, we need a commission to fully establish everything that happened on January 6 and why. I applaud Speaker Pelosi’s announcement that she will move forward with setting up an independent commission, and her commitment to holding those who encouraged, incited, and committed violence against our Capitol to account. Our democracy is precious, and it must be defended.”
