Congresswoman Jacobs Invites Courtney Baltiyskyy of Chula Vista as Virtual Guest for State of the Union
Baltiyskyy is a local child care advocate whose family has been displaced by war in Ukraine
Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) announced that her virtual guest to the State of the Union will be Courtney Baltiyskyy of Chula Vista, California. Baltiyskyy is the Director of Advocacy and Strategic Partnership with the YMCA of San Diego County and is respected throughout the region as a leading advocate for affordable and accessible child care.
Baltiyskyy volunteered with the United States Peace Corps in Ukraine from 2007-2009, and credits her service in Ukraine with inspiring her work with children, youth, and families. Baltiyskyy’s own family has been displaced by the current war, and friends are still sheltering in regions across the country. Baltiyskyy insists that thoughts, prayers, and support be focused on those who are survivors of wars around the world, including in Ukraine.
Congresswoman Jacobs releases the following statement:
“I am honored to have Courtney Baltiyskyy as my virtual guest to this year’s State of the Union. Courtney is beloved in San Diego – she’s known for her tireless advocacy on behalf of San Diego kids, families, and care workers, and has done so much to help our community survive the pandemic.
“I am also grateful to have Courtney as my guest tonight to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. At a deeply personal and painful time for her family and for Ukraine, Courtney has used her platform to speak out for those displaced by war around the world.”
Due to the COVID-19 health restrictions currently in place at the U.S. Capitol, Congresswoman Jacobs will host Baltiyskyy in Washington, D.C. in person later this year.
