Congresswoman Sara Jacobs Appointed to House Armed Services Committee

Jacobs will also serve on House Committee on Foreign Affairs

Today, following consideration of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and with approval of the House Democratic Caucus, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the appointment of Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) to the prestigious House Armed Services Committee. Jacobs will also serve on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and as the senior-most freshman on both committees.

San Diego County is home to the largest concentration of U.S. military personnel in the country. With nearly one fifth of the regional economy connected to military and defense spending, San Diego’s ties to the U.S. Armed Forces runs deep.

Jacobs, who serves as the Founder and Chair of San Diego for Every Child, intends to champion the issue of universal, affordable child care as an issue of force readiness. She will also focus heavily on ending the Forever Wars, representing the millennial generation that has never known a day in their adult lives that the United States has not been at war.

Following her appointment, Congresswoman Jacobs releases the following statement:

“I am honored to be appointed as San Diego’s sole representative to the distinguished House Armed Services Committee. San Diego is a proud military community, and I intend to do everything in my power to ensure that our service members and their families have the support they need. I am looking forward to getting to work – to push for universal child care for military families and an end to the Forever Wars – and am humbled by this opportunity.”
