Congresswoman Sara Jacobs Issues Statement on Worsening Crisis in Ethiopia
In response to the worsening humanitarian crisis and escalating violence in Ethiopia, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs issued the following statement:
“I am deeply concerned by the worsening humanitarian crisis and escalating violence throughout Ethiopia. I condemn the Ethiopian government’s unfounded allegations against and expulsion of humanitarian aid organizations, the recent incursions into the Amhara and Afar regions by Tigrayan forces, which have resulted in over 250,000 displaced people, and the ongoing abuses of Eritrean refugees. While hostilities continue, the Ethiopian people continue to suffer and be subjected to mass displacement, a brutal man-made famine, and horrifying atrocities.
“I urge the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front to withdraw its forces from Amhara and Afar, and Eritrean troops and Amhara regional forces to leave Tigray. I also call on all parties to allow unfettered humanitarian access to Tigray and neighboring regions, and all belligerents to immediately end human rights abuses and atrocities. The only path to a peaceful end to this conflict is through a comprehensive negotiated ceasefire and a robust national dialogue to address long standing grievances.”
