Rep. Sara Jacobs Blasts Trump’s Executive Order To Block State-Level AI Laws
Following President Trump’s signing of an executive order to block state-level AI laws, Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s White House is always pay-to-play, so I’m not surprised in the slightest that after Big Tech donated to his ballroom project and lavished him with praise for months, he’s now eliminating the rules trying to keep them in line. So far, Congress has abdicated its responsibility to establish federal guardrails on AI to protect rights and safety while encouraging innovation. That’s why I, and millions of young Americans, are grateful that states like California have stepped up to address priorities like deepfakes, election disinformation, AI-generated child porn, unsafe chatbots, and more. This executive order is deeply misguided, wildly corrupt, and will actually hinder innovation and weaken public trust in the long run. We will explore all avenues – from the courts to Congress – to reverse this decision.”
Last year, Rep. Sara Jacobs served as a member of the Bipartisan Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. She also passed a provision into law to prevent AI from launching a nuclear weapon on its own – a human must always be in the loop.
