Rep. Sara Jacobs Joins Bipartisan Resolution on Upcoming Elections in Nigeria
Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-51), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, joined Congressman Colin Allred (D-TX-32), Congressman John James (R-MI-10), and Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ-04) in introducing a bipartisan resolution on the upcoming elections in Nigeria.
The resolution reiterates the need to strengthen the ties between the U.S. and Nigeria, to work to reduce violence, voter intimidation and disinformation as well as urge cooperation to ensure free, fair and credible elections take place during the National and State elections scheduled for February 25 and March 11, 2023, respectively.

“...the House of Representatives reaffirms its commitments to bolstering the enduring ties between the people and the Governments of the United States and Nigeria; supports the continuing efforts of the Nigerian people, civil society, and members of the diaspora in exercising their undeniable rights to free, fair, credible, and transparent elections…”
“...calls on the Government of Nigeria to uphold its commitments to transparency, accountability, and good governance, including by—ensuring citizens have unfettered access to necessary voting materials and polling locations…”
“...calls on the United States Government to provide the technical assistance needed to allow for strengthened electoral support, monitoring, and accountability in a timely fashion; collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission to provide training and professional development for electoral workers, political party agents, civil society organizations, and elected officials; and utilize necessary diplomatic measures against those responsible for undermining the rule of law.”
