Rep. Sara Jacobs Slams Speaker Johnson For Taking Away Access to IVF from Military Families
Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) slams Speaker Johnson’s decision to remove her provision that would establish TRICARE coverage of assisted reproductive technology – including IVF – for active duty service members and their dependents, from the final version of the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act.
Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “Speaker Johnson just stole the opportunity for service members to build their families through IVF, putting his personal beliefs over their dreams. It’s an unbelievably selfish and callous move against people who’ve served and sacrificed so much for us, especially when he and his own staff have access to health care plans that provide IVF coverage. I’m also disappointed that President Trump failed to do anything to change Speaker Johnson’s position on this issue despite his alleged love for our military and supposed support for IVF. But the fight isn’t over. Next year, I will keep working to ensure that our military families have access to family-building services because that’s the least we can do for those who’ve sacrificed so much for all of us.”
Earlier this year, Rep. Sara Jacobs and Sen. Tammy Duckworth passed provisions to establish TRICARE coverage of IVF through both the House and Senate on a bipartisan basis. In a highly unusual decision, Speaker Johnson removed this provision – despite its bipartisan and bicameral support – during conference negotiations of the NDAA. Speaker Johnson also removed this IVF language in last year’s final NDAA negotiations.
