Rep. Sara Jacobs Votes Against H.R. 8369

After voting against H.R. 8369, Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) released the following statement:

“It’s our responsibility to ensure that U.S. weapons – no matter what country they are sold to – are used consistently with U.S. law, international humanitarian law, and best practices to reduce civilian harm. Preserving this moral authority is what allows us to build and maintain international coalitions that advance our goals. And that’s why passing H.R. 8369 and attempting to rubber-stamp all arms sales to Israel regardless of the circumstances isn’t only reckless and short-sighted, it’s also an affront to our national security. This is an unprecedented and political tactic that threatens to freeze significant portions of the Department of Defense, Department of State, and National Security Council budgets – including any employee who attempts to follow both U.S. law and policy. It would also supersede and nullify the Leahy Law that requires human rights vetting on security cooperation and assistance programs. We have to stay true to our values, especially when it’s difficult to do so.”
