Rep. Sara Jacobs Votes Against Massive Giveaway to Fossil Fuel Industry

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (CA-51) voted today against H.R. 1, which would add $2.9 billion to the nation’s deficit, give handouts to the oil, gas, and mining industries, and weaken key environmental and public health protections.

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs said: “As one of the youngest Members of Congress, I know that it’s a false choice between protecting and preserving our environment and guaranteeing our energy security. We can and should have both. In fact, clean, renewable energy is our cheapest form of energy; and yet, H.R. 1 perpetuates antiquated thinking and our harmful overreliance on the oil, gas, and mining industries – adding a massive $2.9 billion to our deficit in the process. It undermines critical environmental and public health protections and threatens clean air and safe drinking water for our communities. I won’t support legislation that will worsen our climate crisis, endanger public health and safety, and jeopardize our economy and future.”
