Congresswoman Jacobs Promotes Benefits of American Rescue Plan Across San Diego, Meets with Local Veterans and Food Aid Groups

This past weekend, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) hosted various events throughout San Diego to highlight the benefits of the American Rescue Plan. Congresswoman Jacobs also met local leaders and representatives to hear more about the needs of the community and how the federal government can help. The House is expected to vote on the final passage of the American Rescue Plan – legislation to get shots into arms, money into people’s pockets, and relief to small businesses and non-profits – this week.

On Friday, Congresswoman Jacobs met with leadership of Veterans Village of San Diego and hosted a press conference with colleagues Congressman Mike Levin (D-CA-49), Congressman Juan Vargas (D-CA-51), Congressman Scott Peters (D-CA-52) and local education, business, and non-profit leaders. On Friday, she also toured the San Diego VA Medical Center to talk with local veterans and see their vaccination clinic firsthand. The American Rescue Plan includes $13 billion for additional VA health care and $400 million for job training for veterans affected by the pandemic.

On Saturday, Congresswoman Jacobs volunteered at the Chollas View Church Food Pantry, a partner of the San Diego Food Bank, to support and uplift the critical work they are doing to feed San Diegans during the pandemic.

The American Rescue Plan also includes direct payments to the American public, expanded child tax credits, extended unemployment benefits, and funding for vaccination efforts and school reopening.

“I was so glad to be back in San Diego this week to talk with my constituents and community leaders about what they need from the federal government and about the help they’ll receive through the American Rescue Plan. With countless families and businesses in need of assistance, and unemployment benefits set to expire this month, I’m grateful that the House and Senate acted quickly to deliver additional relief to Americans across the country,” said Congresswoman Sara Jacobs. “I look forward to the bill’s swift passage and to President Biden signing this important legislation into law to put more shots in arms, more money in Americans’ pockets, more kids safely back in school, and more folks back to work.”
