Congresswoman Sara Jacobs Joins Congressional Delegation for Christening of USNS John Lewis

Delegation led by Speaker Pelosi christens Naval ship on first anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’ passing

On the first anniversary of the late Congressman John Lewis’ passing, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53), San Diego’s sole representative on the House Armed Services Committee, joined a congressional delegation led by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to christen the USNS John Lewis at San Diego’s General Dynamics-NASSCO Shipyard.

To mark the occasion, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs issued the following statement: 

“One year ago today, we lost one of the greatest civil rights leaders our country has ever known. Congressman John Lewis was a giant, a relentless fighter for justice, and an optimist who fought to bring our country closer to its unfulfilled promises. 

As we honor his life and legacy, and pledge to continue his work, I’m grateful to welcome Speaker Pelosi and so many of our colleagues to San Diego this weekend. It’s an honor to take part in the christening of the USNS John Lewis, a Naval ship built in his memory and celebrated by the family, friends, and colleagues who loved him.”
