House Passes Appropriations Package That Includes $3 Million in Local Funding Secured by Congresswoman Jacobs

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4502, legislation that included seven FY 2022 appropriations bills to fund the federal government.

The legislation featured $3 million across four local projects in San Diego. This funding was secured by Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53) who submitted Community Project Funding requests of $1,000,000 for the San Diego County Child Care Expansion Fund; $500,000 for the Linda Vista Branch Library Outdoor Early Learning Patio Project; $1,000,000 in funding for renovations to the City Heights Multimedia IDEA LAB and Performance Annex at the City Heights/Weingart Library; and $500,000 for Balboa Park Starlight Bowl ADA facility enhancements.

Congresswoman Jacobs spoke on the House floor last night ahead of the bill’s passage. Her remarks were as follows (Video: Youtube, Twitter)

Mr. Speaker, this past year exposed deep inequities in our society, but it did not create them.

In San Diego County, 60 percent of families couldn't access the child care they needed before the pandemic.

And we know it's only gotten worse.

So it isn't enough to just get back to normal.

For too many families, normal wasn't working.

That's why I'm so proud that this week we will pass Appropriations legislation that increases funding for education, health care, child care, and more.

I'm proud that the package includes $3 million in local project funding for my district, including funding to boost early learning and multimedia education in Linda Vista and City Heights, and to make Balboa Park more accessible.

And I'm also grateful that the package includes my request for $1 million for San Diego County's Child Care Expansion Fund, to help providers increase available spots for care.

There is so much work to be done to build the future we deserve, and I'm grateful to be here, doing it on behalf of the community that I love.

I yield back.
