Rep. Sara Jacobs Announces Local Restaurant Owner Impacted by Tariffs as State of the Union Guest

Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) announced today that her guest for the State of the Union address will be Kianna Shlemon, a local small business owner whose restaurants will be significantly impacted by President Trump’s 25% tariffs.

Rep. Sara Jacobs said: “President Trump is pushing forward with 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, which will raise costs for consumers and small business owners on essentials like groceries, gas, housing, cars, and electronics. These tariffs aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet – they will impact real people’s ability to pay the bills, keep their business going, and buy everyday necessities. That’s why I’m so proud to bring Kianna Shlemon as my guest to the State of the Union to help shine a light on this policy that will devastate our border community. President Trump is using fictional national emergencies to justify these tariffs – and they won’t even address their supposed cause of addressing the fentanyl crisis! No matter how you look at it, these broad, across-the-board tariffs are simply bad policy. I hope that Kianna’s presence at the State of the Union will help persuade at least three House Republicans to help us secure a majority to stop these tariffs.”
